Since Mike Smith in 1995, it was the first time a Canadian reached the podium in the decathlon at the World Championships. Winning at the Decastar meeting with a tally of 8161 points, Warner ended his session of 2013. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Warner won a gold medal in Decathlon.

He also received a gold medal at the 2015 Pan Canadian Games in Toronto and he broke the national and Pan Am Games records. At the 2016 Olympic Games held in Rio De Janerio, Warner achieved a bronze medal and becoming the second Canadian to medal in the decathlon. At the 2018 World Indoor Championship in Birmingham, he won a silver medal. Winning his third bronze medal, Warner competed at the 2019 World Championships in Doha. At the 2021 Hypo-Meeting, Warner became the first man to win six event titles.
