Wallace was born on October 12, 1947,  in Chicago, Illinois, to Mike Wallace and Norma Kaphan, longtime CBS 60 Minutes reporters. Wallace does seem to be Jewish, as were both his mom and dad. Because he was born on Columbus Day, he was given the name Christopher. Peter (1942-1962), his older brother, died tragically at the age of 19 in a mountain climbing accident. He did grow up with his mom and stepfather Bill Leonard, President of CBS News after his parents divorced when he was one year old. When he was hired as an assistant to Walter Cronkite at the 1964 Republican National Convention, Leonard gave him his first taste of political journalism.
