Benjamin Eric Sasse was born in Plainview, Nebraska on February 22, 1972. His father, Gary Lynn Sasse is a high school teacher and a football coach. His mother is Linda Sasse. He met his wife Melissa McLeod on a college trip. The couple got married and has three children- Corrie, Alex, and Breck.

In 1990, he completed his high school education at Fermont Senior High School. He was also the valedictorian of his class.

He received his Bachelor’s degree from Harvard College in 1994. In 1988, he earned his Master’s degree in Liberal Studies from St. John’s College. Moreover, he has also earned two postgraduate degrees in Master of Arts and Master of Philosophy respectively. He was selected as a Harvey Fellow by The Mustard Seed Foundation in 2000.

In 2004, he earned his Doctorate of Philosophy in American History from Yale University. Jon Butler and Hary Stout were the directors of his dissertation titled “The Anti-Madalyn Majority: Secular Left, Religious Right, and the Rise of Reagan’s America”. Sasse won Theron Rockwell Field and George Washington Egleston Prizes for the same.

Before entering American politics, Sasse worked at Boston Consulting Group as an Associate Consultant from 1994 to 1995. Afterward, he was the Consultant/Executive director of Christians United For Reformation (CURE). When CURE merged with the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals (ACE), Ben served as its Executive Director in California.

In 2004 he joined the Office of Legal Policy as Chief of Staff. At the same time, he was teaching at the University of Texas at Austin as a part-time assistant professor and later continued it full-time.

After leaving Office of Legal Policy in 2005, Ben worked as Chief of Staff to  US Representative Jeff Fortenberry and as a contractor for the Department of Homeland Security.

Next year, he became Counselor to Secretary at the US Department of Health and Human Services. In 2007, he was nominated for the post of Assistant secretary for planning and evaluation by George W. Bush. He served there till 2009.

From 2010 to 2014, Sasse served as the 15th President of Midland University. After this, he entered American politics for a period of eight years. In January 2023, Ben resigned from the position of US Senate. Currently, he is succeeding Kent Fuchs as the President-designate of the University of Florida.

He became the Senate after getting a landslide victory by winning all 93 counties of Nebraska.
