Andrew was born on July 14, 1994, in The Bronx, New York. He is 27 years old as of 2021. Andrew was brought up in the Bronx, New York City. He graduated from Fordham Preparatory School. Here he was a part of the school’s baseball team. Until their senior year, he played as the centerfielder. In his senior year, he was named All-Bronx Baseball Player of the Year by the New York Post. He also used to compete on the Prep’s track and field team. He participated as a sprinter and high jumper. Later, he was bestowed with an athletic scholarship to attend State University (Virginia Tech) to play for their college baseball team on the Virginia Tech Hokies.

Arizona Diamondbacks

He was selected by Arizona Diamondbacks in the seventh round in the 2012 Major League Baseball draft. The Diamondbacks,  gave him a whopping $200,000 signing bonus, circumventing his commitment to Virginia Tech. His professional debut was with the Rookie-level Arizona League Diamondbacks of the Arizona League. Later on, in 2013, he was appointed to the South Bend Silver Hawks of the Class A Midwest League. He had a .260 batting average in that season. But he also had nearly three times as numerous strikeouts as walks.

Cleveland Indians

The Rays exchanged him with the Cleveland Indians. It was done for international bonus pool allotments. He was selected for assignment on February 14, 2020. This is when the team signed Domingo Santana.

New York Yankees

He signed a minor league contract with the New York Yankees organization in December 2020. After the season he was let go by the team but he re-signed with the team the following day on a fresh minor league deal. Not long after, in August he was promoted by the Yankees to the major leagues. Velazquez showed his talent and place as a player in the leagues. He was nicknamed “The Bronx Kid” by the Yankees broadcasters. He was also declared a fan-favorite in a crucial three-game set versus the Boston Red Sox. He performed exceptionally and has been taken as a fan favorite. On August 21, he scored his first career home run. This was in a home game facing the Minnesota Twins at Yankee Stadium off the great pitcher Ralph Garza.
