In 2009, Milling was chosen as a Conservative councillor for the Helmshore ward on the Rossendale Borough Council in Lancashire. Three years down the line she was favoured as deputy association leader on the council. She abdicated her seat in 2014. It was after she was selected as the Conservative candidate for the Cannock Chase constituency in Staffordshire. After being criticised for helping to organise a Nazi-themed stag party the Conservative MP Aidan Burley announced that he would not be standing for the next election.

In the 2016 UK EU membership referendum, she backed the UK for remaining within the European Union. After the elections, she helped in organizing Boris Johnson’s 2016 Conservative leadership campaign.  She was re-elected in the 2017 campaign with an increased majority of 8,391 (17.6%). Milling voted for the former Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit retreat agreement at the beginning of 2019.

She was designated as Deputy Chief Whip and Treasurer of the Household in his ministry, after the referendum of Johnson as prime minister in July 2019. Her vote was for Johnson’s Brexit withdrawal agreement in October 2019. She was re-elected in the 2019 general election, with an improved majority of 19,879 (42.9%).
