Alex Pullin was born on 20 September 1987 in Mansfield, Victoria. At a young age, he was fascinated by snowboarding and preferred to snowboard cross, because he considered it “the most pure form of competition”. His parents owned a ski hire shop which probably helped him develop his interest. He was dating Emily Vlug. She is a swimwear model. They had been together since perhaps 2012.
Unfortunately, on 8 July 2020, he drowned on the Gold Coast in Queensland. He was 32 years old. It seems like the accident happened when he was spearfishing by himself at an artificial reef off Palm Beach. His body was found by a snorkeler on the ocean floor. Lifeguards attempted to resuscitate him for 45–50 minutes, but he did not recover.

Alex Pullin represented Australia at the 2010 Winter Olympics in snowboard cross (boarder cross). He had the fastest qualifying time (1:20.15) in his event.Though he was eliminated in the first round ending up finishing in 17th place by virtue of his qualifying time.
He was the flag bearer for the Australian Winter Olympic team at the 2014 Winter Olympics and competed in the men’s snowboard cross. Even though he eliminated in the quarterfinals even though he was one of the favorites of the event. He competed in the Men’s Snowboard Cross again in the 2018 Winter Olympics, and came in sixth place, due to crashing out during the final race. He was ranked the number one competitor in the event according to the world rankings prior to the Games.
Aside from the Olympics, Pullin competed in the Winter X Games in 2008 and won a silver medal in the 2016. He won the snowboard cross events at the 2011 and 2013 FIS Snowboarding World Championships. This made him the first Australian to defend a Snowboarding World Championships title. He won a gold in the New Zealand Winter Games in 2011.
Pullin announced his retirement from the sport, in 2020.
